Description
Hi! I am Trina, I am passionate about my family, reading great books to cultivate my imagination, baking and the beach. I am a credentialed Secondary English Teacher who has in class and online experience with students from Kindergarten to High School. I have also worked as a ELA tutor for a few years. What makes me happy at Bookclub is getting to know my students and their interests and coming alongside them on the lifelong quest of learning. One of my favorite kids books would be the entire Narnia series by CS Lewis, I have loved reading those with my oldest son. I look forward to meeting you.

Many of our members have requested opportunities for moms to engage with literature in the same way that we offer their children. As always, actively respond to survey feedback and are thrilled to announce Mom's Book Club, a specialty book club just for adults!

While SOAR KIDZ does not teach English per se, data analysis has shown significant improvement in English skills among participants through our discussion-based SOAR KIDZ classes.

We realize that language development and enhancing language proficiency cannot happen in a completely sterile, predetermined environment. It would be like asking an Olympic level triathlete to only train using a stationary bike on one setting, swim in the same swimming pool while never experiencing open water and running on a treadmill at the same pace and incline every day. For those who may have struggled before, with SOAR KIDZ, English skills can truly experience growth in a discussion-based environment that offers meaningful, engaging opportunities to speak, share, and listen to others.

Learning Goal

Following the classes, students will be able to

  • Engage in dynamic discussions surrounding the story, responding to comprehension questions.

  • Share personal insights and exploring diverse perspectives on relevant debate topics.

  • Expand their vocabulary repertoire by incorporating new terms from the textbook.

  • Identify and recount key story elements, including conflicts, resolutions, primary characters.

*By actively participating in book discussions and activities, students will not only enhance their literacy skills but also cultivate a broader appreciation for storytelling and its applications across various contexts.
